Description:
2020 has faced most people with some serious challenges. The pandemic and earlier lock downs isolated people and families, especially the elderly. The uncertainty of the virus and how to deal with it led many down of path of anxiety and fear. Coupled with this, the divisions in our country and the violence of the year have accented already fragile spirits. Hope is needed. The Season of Advent gives us an opportunity to renew our hope. Hope is a longing for something better or more than what we currently experience in life. Christian hope is based on the promise of life offered to us through Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection. Jesus’ return will usher in the New Jerusalem where all creation will be brought to perfection.
“Dare to Hope” will focus on the image of the new Jerusalem as the image of hope. Jerusalem, the holy city, provided Israel with a focal point reminding them of God’s presence among them. The destruction of the city by the Babylonians shattered this understanding, but in its wake there rose the longing for a “New Jerusalem,” a messianic city with a King whose reign is eternal. This city will be a city of peace and justice, love and mercy. The New Jerusalem comes to fruition in Christ Jesus, and His return will bring it to completion (perfection).
