~ Week of January 29, 2023 ~
Dear Friends,
The gospel passage for today’s liturgy begins Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. The account opens with the familiar list of the beatitudes. The first one, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,” sets the tone and pace for the others. Humility before God is set as a firm foundation for building His Kingdom in and among ourselves. Each beatitude offers us an insight on how to live as citizens of the Kingdom. Perhaps we can each choose one of them this week to focus on in our own lives.
Today we will be having the Blessing of Throats in honor of Saint Blaise’s feast day this week. Anyone wishing to have their throat blessed can come up after Mass. In doing so we are asking divine protection and the gift of good health.
Catholic Schools’ Week begins today. As we continue to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of our school, we remember all the good work that has been done and continues to be done in our school and we give thanks to God for all the principals, sisters, teachers, students, staff, parents, priests and board members who have helped make and continue to make our school a beacon of hope for our youth and the whole parish. Today (Sunday) there will be an Open House over at the school from 12:00 to 2:00 PM – please consider stopping in to see all the good that is being done.
God bless,
Monsignor Prior
